Alba Bosch, soprano. Marc Serra, piano.
The duo formed by the soprano Alba Bosch and the pianist Marc Serra forms with the anxiety of exploring the Lied repertoire, French song and Catalan and Spanish song, paying special attention to the link between text and music.
They have worked with several teachers such as Francisco Poyato or Wolfram Rieger.
This concert proposes a journey from the German romanticism in which the lied was born, to the diversification experienced by this genre in the early twentieth century. The action is located in what were the two most important cultural centers in the world for decades: Vienna and Paris.
In the Austro-Hungarian capital, Franz Schubert was born. His enormous production of lieder and the depth and sophistication with which he joined music and poems raised this genre, which until then was less valued than symphonic or chamber music. Years later, Brahms would continue to cultivate it, taking tradition and popular music as the starting point and, along with other composers such as Schumann and Wolf, would expand the harmonic and language of music. Richard Strauss is considered the last composer of the romantic tradition, since in Vienna in the early twentieth century the avant-garde would break with the conception of the art of the previous century for new forms of expression.
Between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries Paris was the other capital of European culture. There, also innovation in art was a distinctive sign of the time. Parallel to the Viennese, Debussy developed harmony and a very personal language that is reflected in many of its melodies and chansons that inspired poets like Verlaine, Baudelaire or Mallarmé. Precisely Paris was the pilgrimage site of many Spanish composers who wanted to open their way; Albéniz, Granados and Falla, among many others, spent time in the French capital impregnating themselves with the rise and cultural innovation. Manuel de Falla, as well as Brahms and Schubert had done before, was inspired by the popular music of his country and, based on a significant musicological research, produced a personal and sophisticated language.
