Paul Critchley presents at Espai Gomis an exhibition aimed at transporting the viewer to many places through his gaze. His characteristic works include diptychs and triptychs, a style he adopted in 1990 and has since produced over 100 pieces. For his upcoming solo exhibition at Espai Gomis, Critchley will present five works: four triptychs and one diptych.
The themes of his paintings range from landscapes depicting seasonal changes to seascapes capturing the transition from day to night, and an interior scene evoking a surreal and unsettling atmosphere.
What distinguishes Critchley's work is not only its content but also its form. The paintings depart from traditional rectangular or square formats and instead mimic the shapes of window panels, reflecting the view when they are open or closed. These unexpected forms arise from Critchley's lifelong fascination with irregular canvases, offering viewers a new way of seeing and understanding.
Critchley's exhibition will take place at the European Museum of Modern Art in Barcelona until May 30, 2024. He will be present at the celebration of 'La Nit dels Museus 2024' in Barcelona.
