DESCRIPTION:
This program offers an expressive journey through three centuries of European music, bringing together Baroque refinement, Classical balance, and the intensity of Spanish musical nationalism—performed by pianist Ingrid Cusidó, whose sensitivity and musical depth unify very different styles into a coherent whole.
Henry Purcell – Selection of pieces
Purcell’s music embodies the elegance and clarity of the English Baroque. In this selection, we hear a direct and expressive language, with highly singable melodies and a refined use of harmony. Transcribed for the piano, these pieces retain their intimate and noble character, inviting the listener into a space of contemplation and serene beauty.
Joseph Haydn – Sonata in C major, Hob. XVI:50
Written at the height of his creative maturity, this sonata is one of the masterpieces of the Classical piano repertoire. Here Haydn achieves a perfect balance between form and imagination:
- a first movement of brilliant architecture,
- an Adagio of deep lyrical introspection,
- and a finale full of vitality and wit.
The work demands clarity, elegance, and a strong sense of structure—hallmarks of the Viennese Classical tradition.
Manuel de Falla – Four Spanish Pieces
In these pieces, de Falla transforms Spanish folklore into a modern, sophisticated pianistic language. Each movement evokes popular rhythms, modes, and colors—Aragonese, Andalusian, and Castilian—shaped through refined and evocative writing. The result is music of strong character, contrast, and authenticity, deeply tied to Spanish identity.
Manuel de Falla – Fantasía Bética
As the culmination of the program, Fantasía Bética is a work of great rhythmic power and technical complexity. Inspired by Andalusian cante jondo, it combines primitive and modern elements in an impassioned, demanding discourse. It is a piece of striking personality, in which the piano becomes almost a percussive instrument—charged with tension, energy, and drama.
Ingrid Cusidó, piano
Pianist Ingrid Cusidó stands out for an interpretation that is deep, elegant, and fully committed to the style of each work. Her approach combines musical rigor and expressiveness, allowing each composer’s voice to remain distinct within a coherent, narrative program. Through her performance, the audience is guided on a musical journey from Baroque intimacy to the expressive fire of 20th-century Spain.
