DESCRIPTION:
Due to the perspectives with which history has been written, the arts could not remain apart from being, unfairly, understood as fields reserved exclusively for male protagonists.
The sisters Maria Malibran (1808–1836) and Pauline Viardot (1821–1910), daughters of the singer and actress Joaquina Sitches (Joaquina Briones) and of the great tenor, composer and impresario Manuel García (Manuel del Pópulo Vicente García), and on the other hand, the contralto Isabella Colbran (1784–1845), the wife of composer Gioachino Rossini, are three figures who lived in an era in which they had to confront an adverse environment in every sense: moral, political, artistic. Although they achieved recognition in Europe and America, shortly after their deaths they suffered oblivion, until the late 20th century, when their legacy was once again valued.
Their story is also that of the origins of opera in North America, of the connections between figures such as Liszt, Chopin, George Sand, Bellini, Victor Hugo, among others.
As for musical performance, thanks to their letters and other documents, we have a clear idea of how a good interpretation was conceived and how singing was taught; all these aspects can be appreciated and understood through their compositions that will be performed in the concert.
