WORKS BY: C. Debussy and Beethoven
Bringing Beethoven’s and Debussy’s Clair de Lune works together in the same programme is to witness a fascinating dialogue about human perception. Through the same celestial metaphor, we witness the clash of two aesthetic worlds. In Beethoven (1801), the moon is the setting for the self amid inner turmoil, human drama and the rebellion of the Romantic spirit. In Debussy (1905), the outer landscape absorbs the individual; music becomes colour, atmosphere and suggestion. This concert is not merely a display of pianistic virtuosity, but a meditation on how art transformed the way we looked at the sky over the course of a century.
