Talk about the exhibition:
“Dreams and Temptations. Sculpture in Catalonia in the Time of Modernisme: Uncovering its keys with the curator".
By Juan Carlos Bejarano Veiga at the Biblioteca Sant Gervasi - Joan Maragall
Organized by: Catalan Institute for Research in Sculpture and Biblioteca Clarà.From June 6 to September 28, the MEAM Museum in Barcelona presents for the first time a major exhibition devoted exclusively to sculpture during the Modernisme period, which marked a true golden age in Catalonia between the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
In this talk at the Biblioteca Sant Gervasi - Joan Maragall, the curator will reveal to the audience the conceptual framework and goals pursued in the exhibition, as well as its main protagonists and masterpieces, such as Desolation by Josep Llimona, The Degenerates by Carles Mani, and The First Cold by Miquel Blay, along with artists like Eusebi Arnau, Enric Clarasó, Ismael Smith, Emili Fontbona, and Lambert Escaler. The presentation will also highlight the contributions of the movement—while critically examining the notion of “modernity” inherent to Modernisme—as well as those of lesser-known figures, including women artists.
