Songs for a travel companion with Javier López & Kornél Mikecz

    KORNÉL MIKECZ, baritone.

Born in Budapest in 1979, he began piano studies at the age of eight years and, when he fulfilled the twelve, he was admitted into the Choir for children of the Hungarian Radio. He continued his musical formation in St. Stephen's High School of Music, firstly in the composition chair, and later at the department of singing and sol-fa. His top formation divided him between two institutions of big prestige in Europe: the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music of Budapest and the Universität für Müsik und darstellende Kunst of Vienna. In Budapest he studied with the teacher Magda Nádor, while in Vienna he studied inside the department of Lied and Oratory with the teachers Walter C. Moore and Claudia Visca. In both conservatories he graduated with the maximum qualification (summa cum laude). During his entire career as soloist, he has always been a very versatile musician with a wide styles record. He has tackled both the genre of the musical, and the contemporary music or the theater musical - opera. Out-standing mention is deserved by his participation in the musical The Dance of the Vampires Steimel Kunze, in which he was the director of the ensemble. His main rolls belong almost always to the comic opera (Dandini, Fígaro), but due to his big vocal record and his wide possibilities, he has taken part also in contemporary operas (Krisztián Gergye's Ice Cream Ballet) going so far as even to mix classic opera with alternative pop. He has worked with stage managers and conductors of recognized prestige like Iván Fischer, Ádám Medveczky Zoltán Bolyky, Róbert Alföldi, Krisztián Gergye Balázs Kovalik, György Böhm, András Jeles. In contrast to the classic singers of operatic formation, one of the fundamental parts of his repertory is the Lied and the chamber music, dedicating a big part of his concerts to Schubert, Schumann, Brahms or Mahler between others. Now he is a member of several choirs of Budapest (Choir of the Hungarian National radio, Choir of the National Opera of Hungary) and the musical director of MAFILM dubbing studio.
