Paul was born in San Sebastián in 1979. Holding a higher degree in jazz piano, his great passion was and continues to be the blues. His first contact with this style came through British rhythm & blues bands of the 1960s. He has been performing since the age of 15 and is currently fully immersed in the pianistic tradition of blues, mastering styles such as “stride” and “boogie woogie.” In 2011 he released his first solo album, “Tracks,” on the Gaztelupeko Hotsak label, a piano-and-vocals recording.
Among his influences are musicians such as Alan Price, Jerry Lee Lewis, Roosevelt Sykes, Memphis Slim, Otis Spann, Sunnyland Slim, Dr. John, Professor Longhair, and James Booker.
Throughout his extensive career, Paul San Martín has collaborated with highly relevant artists, including Nico Wayne Toussaint, Otis Grand, Gerry Hundt, Lluís Coloma, James Armstrong, Ñaco Goñi, Slam Allen, Sax Gordon, Chris Ruest, and the legendary blues figure Billy Boy Arnold. In 2013 he released another piano-and-vocals album, “Paul’s Mood,” again with Gaztelupeko Hotsak, a new pianistic immersion into different blues styles.
In 2023 he won the European Blues Challenge in Chorzów (Poland) together with the band Noa & The Hell Drinkers.
Paul comes directly from San Sebastián to delight the MEAM audience.
