Guillermo Lorca

La casa de arena

MEAM presents The Sand House, a major solo exhibition by Guillermo Lorca spanning a decade of the artist's work. The exhibition runs from 28 May to 27 September 2026.

Lorca has built a pictorial universe entirely his own, where beauty and unease, childhood and threat, the human and the animal, the intimate and the monumental all coexist. In his large-format oil paintings, he crafts a hidden balance of power and rivalry between nature and human action through scenes of intense psychological tension and symbolic force. A painting practice that seduces, unsettles and stays with you.

The Sand House arrives at a moment of full international recognition for the artist: his work commands consistent attention in the global art market, and his institutional presence spans museums and leading cultural centres across Europe, Asia and Latin America. MEAM, an institution dedicated to the defence and promotion of figurative art and contemporary realism, affirms itself as the natural home for the work of one of the most compelling painters in the art world today.

Guillermo Lorca García Huidobro is a renowned contemporary painter. Despite his youth, he already has an astonishing international trajectory and a singular pictorial language. He was apprentice and assistant to the artist Odd Nerdrum in Norway. He has had important exhibitions including: “Eternal Life” at the National Museum of Fine Arts, “Nocturnal Animals” at the GAM Cultural Center, “The Encounter” at the El Tranque Cultural Center, and “The Splendor of the Night” at the MOCO Museum in Barcelona, curated by Simon de Pury. Currently presenting a solo exhibition at the prestigious National Gallery in Sofia, Bulgaria.
