Bolero: identity, emotion and poetry made song | Saturday Classics
Beyond its spectacular collection of contemporary figurative painting, the European Museum of Modern Art (MEAM) organizes a wide range of activities and initiatives. One of these is the classical music series held every Saturday afternoon.
On this occasion, we will feature the artists:
Indira Ferrer, soprano
Carles Puig, pianoWORKS BY: Lecuona, Grever, Velázquez...
DESCRIPTION:
The Bolero was born in Cuba in 1883 and spread throughout Mexico and other Latin American countries with its lyrical lyrics, of love and heartbreak, as well as its lilting percussions accompanied by guitars, basses, pianos, woodwinds and its characteristic Mexican requinto that, together with solo or group voices, enriched it, both in its country of origin and in the nations that welcomed it as their own, as is the case of Mexico.
The Bolero has been transmitted from generation to generation, it brings together its bearers and encourages their interaction, promotes the transmission of knowledge, from the instrumental and musical to the lyrical and dance.
Today we will pay tribute to it remembering precisely the Mexican and Cuban boleros, recalling an old salon of the XIX century and celebrating that precisely the bolero is declared Intangible Heritage of Humanity by Unesco since 2023.
