Friday´s Blues & PAUL SAN MARTIN & VICTOR PUERTAS

Friday, November 15, 6:00 p.m.: VIII Fridays Blues & Boogie-Woogie Piano Meeting with:
PAUL SAN MARTIN & VICTOR PUERTAS
Paul San Martin, piano, voice. Victor Doors, piano, voice

Paul was born in San Sebastián in 1979. He graduated in jazz piano, his great passion was blues. His first contact with this style was through the British rhythm & blues groups of the 60s.

He has been performing since he was 15 years old and is currently totally immersed in the pianistic tradition of blues, dominating styles such as “stride” or “boogie woogie”.

In 2011 he published his first solo work, "Tracks", a piano and voice record. Together with his group Stay Blues he has participated in different blues festivals and, for five consecutive years, has performed at the prestigious San Sebastian Jazz Festival. In summer of 2007, the band also released their first album. In 2013, Paul edited a new piano and voice work, "Paul’s Mood," piano immersion in the different blues styles.

His influences include those of musicians such as Alan Price, Jerry Lee Lewis, Roosevelt Sykes, Memphis Slim, Otis Spann, Sunnyland Slim, Dr John, Professor Longhair or James Booker

Throughout his already extensive career, Paul San Martín has collaborated with artists of great relevance, including Nico Wayne Toussaint, Otis Grand, Gerry Hundt, Lluís Coloma, James Armstrong, Ñaco Goñi, Slam Allen, Sax Gordon, Chris Ruest or the legendary blues legend Billy Boy Arnold.

Paul comes directly from San Sebastián to participate in the MEAM's Fridays Blues & Boogie Woogie piano meeting cycle.

Víctor Puertas is a powerful harmonicist, who also plays guitar, piano, and Hammond organ. Although his fame comes as a harmonist, he dominates the piano, an instrument he plays with great sensitivity and deep emotion.
Together with his brother Pere Puertas have shared their love for the blues since they were young, forming the duo The Suitcase Brothers, participating in all the most important blues festivals in Spain. They have also traveled and lived in the United States for a period of time. Victor lived in Washington DC and Pere in Austin, TX. There they learned to play with some of the best musicians in the blues scene like Jerry Portony, Joe Filisko, Gary Primich, John Cefas and Phil Wiggins, Steve James, James Harman, Paul Rishell and Annie Raines, to name a few.

On this occasion and exceptionally, Victor hangs his harmonics and offers us with Paul San Martin an exclusive piano recital, instrument with which he manages to create great magic on stage, in an environment of good communication with the public.
