25 Jul 26Musical Postcard of Spain, Europe and America Lute and Guitar Recital | Saturday Classics
Guitarist and lutenist Ernest Martínez presents a concert program divided into three sections. The recital begins with Spanish Renaissance music, performed on the lute and comprising folk-inspired pieces, dances, and romances, as well as serious music such as fantasies.
The central section is dedicated to European Romanticism. The composers Sor, Mertz, and Chopin will take center stage; performed on the guitar, they offer distinct timbres and a broader perspective on the instruments and the music.
Before moving on to the final section, two works by the composer Villa-Lobos will make a strong impression on the concert with their virtuosity and modern harmonies.
As a grand finale, the concert concludes with some of the most iconic works of the Spanish repertoire: the dances of Granados, transcriptions by Falla, and the well-known tremolo “Recuerdos de la Alhambra” by Francisco Tárrega
