Rebel Slowness

MEAM opens its doors to initiatives that share its commitment to contemporary figurative art and rigorous artistic practice. One of them is Rebel Slowness, a community created and organised by Barcelona Art Experience —independent from the museum's own artist community— that works from life every week within a singular museum setting.

How they work

The community gathers regularly at MEAM for live model sessions focused on the human figure and portraiture. Each month, philosophical talks and masterclasses are held with established artists. Plein air outings are also organised, encouraging artistic practice in open environments and creative exchange among participants.

Why Rebel Slowness exists

Artistic practice requires real time, real space, and real matter. It demands sustained observation, repetition, and discipline. Against constant production and digital consumption, this community stands for a slow, deliberate, and collective process.

Rebel Slowness is not an aesthetic concept. It is a way of working.

The group is kept small to preserve quality and personal guidance. Access is granted upon request, to ensure coherence and commitment.
